w momencie przekroczenia sfery komfortu,

Ekspozycji towarzyszy przetworzone nagranie bicia serca.

Grzegorza Przyborka i dr. Łukasza Ogórka na ASP im. Władysława Strzemińskiego w Łodzi.

When an event influences a person or creates one or more emotional reactions, how he or she deals with and expresses those emotions is described as his or her mental (affective) state.  What that person is experiencing may have positive or negative connotations and will therefore result in the characteristic reactions. Affective quality denotes the emotional nature of an experience and makes it either positive or negative.

Discomfort is a subjective feeling which people have when they react to a given context related to their life, something to do with the physical world or their own emotions. But it may happen that a person in fact doesn’t know why they feel the way they feel.

I am interested in those emotions which are felt at the moment when someone is outside of their comfort zone, something which forces that person to deal with a new context. It was not my intention to document such emotional states, but to first portray those states and then elicit them from the spectator. With this aim in mind, when making the video, I focussed on creating somatic effects by filming bodies in laboratory conditions and then editing the films in different ways. The accompanying photographs move between the real world and world of symbols. The gestures and composition which are apparently quite familiar in fact give the impression of being unnatural and slightly disturbing.

The exhibition includes a recording of heart-beats.
